The Basics Part 3: Core Concepts

At Staking U, the goal is to teach you two things: how a locating instrument works and how to use that instrument. At its core, locator training comes down to three key concepts: current, shape and endpoint. This will be a common anchor point for every student undertaking our training program.

Locating instruments are really great tools for locating pipes and cables (Figure 25), but they’re not always used with the best possible method for a given situation. At Staking U, we aim to show the student ways to use a locating instrument to make their locates as smooth and as accurate as possible. The comprehensive body of information provided through this training program is meant to not only teach key concepts, but to demonstrate them as well. Thus, the student will be able to recognize and tackle many different scenarios that require their locating instrument to be used in different ways.
