The Basics Part 1-4: Energizing

Going back to signal and signal shape, it’s important to remember that setting up your locate so the signal has the best chance of leaving the transmitter equally in all directions is key. This is the part of locating that requires a lot of troubleshooting and where we place the focus on in several of the training videos. 

The operative question is, “How do I get the best signal on the desired utility, especially if other utilities are in the area?” 

If there’s electromagnetic energy on two pieces of metal in close proximity with one another, think of it like magnets: the two fields will either repel or attract. Either way, these two electromagnetic fields are no longer circular. The fields not being circular will result in a certain degree of inaccurate information.
